when I looked at the box I thought “Big Deal” because I had tried older versions of Roxio before. They were Quirky to say the least. Upon closer look I noted that there was a video/audio capture card the size of a thumb drive in there. I figured it’d be worth if just for the capture card. I was pleasantly surprised how well the software worked and amazed that a thumb drive sized, USB capture card could do so well. If you want an easy way to dump your home videos and music onto your computer, Roxio is the way to go. I have an older system and did notice that I had to turn off AVG and Spyware Doctor while capturing Video, so I unplugged my network cable and ran a sweep before capturing my videos. Anti-viruses will make some blips in the video (at least on my older machine)

This is a great product. I found it very easy to load and use the software and to transfer VHS tapes to DVD using the adapter. The software provides many ways to create video projects which I only dabbled in a little. I was able to edit videos & create DVDs with ease. I highly recommend it.

I purchased a 1.5 Tb drive to store the captured video onto, only to find out that the USB video capture doesn’t work with drives larger that 1Tb. It reports that there are 0 bytes available. Roxio has suggested I repartition the drive.

I got the Special Ed. bundle which pairs the Roxio creator 2009 software with a Roxio video adaptor. I think it is a good package and has everything for tape conversion. Creator is easy enough to learn and figure out. Perhaps a few high end tools are missing, but for the most part I found it to be a good basic media file editor. After grabbing video from tapes I can make complete video projects. The sound tools were effective enough that I could eliminate some hissing sounds and bring up the voices on home shot video. It will correct bad scratchy noise. I’ve been playing around with the visual effects. I know there are a lot of variations in programs but I could do what I wanted. This also replaces my old disk authoring program. The 2-step burning option is really handy, especially when I’m burning the video onto disks.

I have used Roxio Media Creator over the years and have watched it deteriorate from a decent product to a confusing product to a buggy product and now a nonfunctional product. The latest version will not even install on my Vista computer. Will have to run it slowly on my old XP machine and wait. Their licensing is also a pain as any new user has to go through their licensing agreement before using every module. I will be looking elsewhere next time.
